In a conversation with Kate McReary, Niko says that he found Roman's mother raped and murdered, although Niko told Roman that she died in a house fire. When Niko complained about Roman's "shitty" apartment, Roman told him he slept under at his desk at his taxi depot for over a year before he was finally able to get the apartment. After arriving in Liberty City, Roman eventually saved up enough money, and bought two taxis, the cab depot, and eventually an apartment.
She also wanted to send Niko to the United States, but he stayed behind to fight in the Yugoslav War. After the war, she used all of the money she had saved to send Roman to the United States of America. He and Niko grew up together, and Niko claims that Roman’s mother raised both of them. After this, Niko can no longer collect fares.Īfter the mission Russian Revolution, the player cannot call Roman for a job even if the player has not completed all or any of the taxi missions, they will be permanently disabled as Roman's depot is burned down in Roman's Sorrow.Roman Bellic was born in the area of Yugoslavia which is now modern-day Serbia, in Eastern Europe. If Niko is already driving one, he will tell Roman that he can go and pick up the fare immediately.Įven though no time counter appears, the passengers will tell Niko to hurry up and the mission will fail if the player takes too long. Roman will give the location of the customer and his/her destination as well as informing Niko to pick up a Taxi from the cab depot.
Niko can perform the taxi side mission, after the mission Jamaican Heat, by phoning Roman Bellic and choosing the "Job" option on the menu.
